El pasado 20 de Febrero tuvimos el agrado de organizar la primera charla técnica del año: Networking para una Infraestructura segura en Cloud Computing, la cual estuvo a cargo de Randiel Melgarejo, especialista en innovación de base tecnológica y arquitectura digital. Egresado de Ingeniería de Sistemas de la Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería, estudios de Maestría en Educación y Tecnologías Educativas. Certificado AWS en Cloud Computing. Certificado en Blockchain Corda por R3. Consultor de Instituciones públicas y privadas para proyectos de migración a nube, diseño y gestión de productos digitales.
En la charla se habló acerca de cómo se virtualiza los recursos de red en un entorno de computación en nube, se presentó los elementos básicos y sus opciones de diseño y configuración.
El objetivo fue que los asistentes tengan claro cómo pueden redefinir la arquitectura de red a nivel de un despliegue en nube pública, y nube privada.

El pasado miércoles 11 de Marzo tuvimos el agrado de organizar el primer Meet Up ComSoc Latinoamérica, donde tuvimos como panelistas a 3 miembros del Board, esta actividad fue realizada en las instalaciones de la Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas (UPC).
El encuentro tuvo la siguiente agenda:
1. Charla Técnica: Metamateriales y sus aplicaciones en la Industria de las Telecomunicaciones Presentado por Gidy Florez, investigadora en el Centro Brasilero de Pesquisas Físicas, en la PUC-Rio, Brasil. La charla trato acerca de introducción y definiciones de los distintos tipos de metamateriales; prototipos de conductores magnéticos artificiales; aplicaciones en la Tele medicina, Antenas MIMO altamente compactas para WiFi de largo alcance y WiMAX, meta-superficies; y finalmente sobre las principales compañías a nivel global relacionadas al mercado de aplicaciones de los metamateriales.
2. Jóvenes profesionales y capítulos Estudiantiles: Casos de éxito y novedades en la región. Tuvimos la participación de nuestra Directora Regional ComSoc, Nury Ramirez; y Gidy Florez, como coodinadora de actividades estudiantiles ComSoc. Ellas presentaron al Board ComSoc LA Región para el periodo 2020-2021, también sobre los diferentes comités, principalmente el comité de Jóvenes Profesionales y el comité de Actividades Estudiantiles. Mencionaron las actividades realizadas con el grupo de Jóvenes profesionales (Conferencias online, Sesiones en las diferentes conferencias a nivel global organizadas por la Sociedad Técnica), además de numero de miembros YP ComSoc en la región, los beneficios de ser miembro ComSoc.
Con respecto a los capítulos estudiantiles, nos compartieron información acerca de los beneficios de membresía ComSoc para estudiantes, la promoción a solo 1 USD, el ComSoc Student Competition, IEEE ComSoc School Series, número de capítulos estudiantiles a nivel de la región.
3. WICE: Contexto global e iniciativa en Perú En esta secciòn, Esmeralda Asurza, Vice Presidenta del Capitulo ComSoc Perú, y Secretaria del Board ComSoc Latinoamérica dio a conocer el grupo de Mujeres en Ingeniería de Comunicaciones (WICE), cuya misión es promover la visibilidad y los roles de las mujeres ingenieras de comunicaciones y proporcionar un lugar para su crecimiento profesional. Mencionó las actividades WICE en las conferencias emblemáticas de ComSoc tales como ICC y GlobeCom tales como la iniciativa de apoyo de cuidado infantil para los participantes en las conferencias, becas de viaje para estudiantes, y los paneles WICE. En adición indico su interés de replicar la iniciativa en actividades locales empezando por encuentros y actividades técnicas con mayor participación de mujeres en el rubro de Comunicaciones, así como apoyo en asesoría a las estudiantes de estas lineas de carrera.
4. Dinámica ComSoc Se realizó una dinámica con los asistentes vía la aplicación Kahoot donde se premiaron a los asistentes con mayor acierto en las preguntas con contenido de las charlas realizadas. Y al finalizar la actividad un compartir y networking entre los asistentes.
En el mes de Noviembre del 2019, el capítulo IEEE ComSoc Perú organizó el primer Student Competition local, del cual participaron diferentes capítulos ComSoc de ramas estudiantiles.
La finalidad de esta competencia fue premiar a los capítulos con la mayor contribución a la sociedad de Comunicaciones por medio de actividades técnicas, sociales, desarrollo de membresía y proyectos e ideas innovadoras en el desarrollo de la misma (uso de redes sociales, publicaciones, otros).
Se premiaron con 9 membresías IEEE + ComSoc para los estudiantes, los ganadores fueron en el siguiente orden:
1. Capítulo Estudiantil de la Universidad Nacional Federico Villareal
El capítulo IEEE ComSoc UNFV organizó dos talleres tecnicos (Introduccion a Phyton, y Administracon de servidores Linux) en el mes de Agosto, en el mes de Octubre realizaron el Congreso Nacional VILLATEL, donde se tuvieron conferencias de profesionales en diferentes áreas del sector Telecomunicaciones. En el mes de Noviembre organizaron un taller de Srum y dos charlas Tecnicas relacionadas a comunicaciones Satelitales y Transformación Digital.
En adición participó de actividades organizadas por la rama estudiantil y el grupo de Afinidad WIE, como talleres de empleabilidad y desarrollo de habilidades blandas, y mujeres en Ciberseguridad.
Además innovó en el uso de redes sociales, ellos publican de forma periodica noticias, abstract de papers del sector telecomunicaciones, y noticias de tecnología. El capitulo IEEE ComSoc UNFV fue ganador de 5 membresías IEEE + ComSoc.
2. Capítulo Estudiantil de la Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería
El capítulo IEEE ComSoc UNI organizó en el año 4 charlas técnicas: Sistema de radio difusión usando el estandar RDS, Aplicaciones de AI en IoT, Cloud Computing, Serie de charlas con egresados UNI que trabajan en el extranjero y un taller de Python, Linux y Base de Datos.
En adicion partició de actividades organizadas por la rama estudantil y coorganizó la charla sobre Nuevas Aplicaciones en Fibra Óptica, Fotonica Integrada para Comunicaciones Móviles en conjunto con el capitulo estudiantil IEEE Photonics UNI. En adición colaboró con el capítulo ComSoc de Sección Peru como sede de una de las conferencias brindadas por el DL Joel Rodrigues en el mes de Setiembre.
Tambien usan de forma constante su pagina de Facebook donde publican sus actividades, además de compartir noticias relacionadas en Tecnología. El capitulo IEEE ComSoc UNI fue ganador de 3 membresías IEEE + ComSoc.
3. Capítulo Estudiantil de la Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas
El capítulo IEEE ComSoc UPC realizó en el mes de Mayo y Junio los talleres técnico de redes, y de programación en Python, en Agosto organizaron la charla: Cómo empezar en Ciencia de Datos e Inteligencia Artificial, en Octubre los talleres de: Machine Learning para series de tiempo Introduccción a Smart Cities e IoT, y en Noviembre la charla: Realidad de las telecomunicaciones en el Perú
En adición colaboró con el capítulo ComSoc de Sección Perú como sede de las conferencias brindadas por los DL Dijiang Huang y Joel Rodrigues en los meses de Mayo y Setiembre respectivamente. El capítulo IEEE ComSoc UPC fue ganador de 1 membresía IEEE + ComSoc.
Last 27th of February, we had our first webinar titled: Bringing the Power of AI to IoT, by Dennis Zarate. This webinar, organized by the Industry Relations Committee of ComSoc LA Region and ComSoc Peru Chapter, was a success thanks to the support of the YP ComSoc committee and the participation of the audience, mostly young professionals.
Topics covered in the webinar were the following:
– Data value chain in IoT
– Importance massive IoT of LPWAN technologies (Sigfox, LoRa,NB-IoT and LTE-M).
– Power of IoT an AI
– Use cases and opportunities of IOT & AI
– Challenges of IoT & AI in implementation
The talk had many interesting questions by audience about AI and IoT applications in industry and business models.

Dennis Zarate Torres obtained a Master in Business Administration MBA CENTRUM PUCP, International Master in Leadership at EADA Barcelona-Spain, Telecommunications Engineer at Catholic University of Peru (PUCP), with internship studies at Peking University China (Doing Business in China) and the Polytechnic School at São Paulo University.
He works as Solutions Architect at America Movil Claro Perú, and President to the technical commission of Internet of Things at Engineers College of Peru at the chapter Electronic Engineering chapter and was president of the IEEE COMSOC PUCP in 2010. Specialized in Big Data, Data Science and IoT solutions.

This year 2018 we received DLT Yi Quian on his tour of Latin America that included the countries of Bolivia, Chile and Peru. On August 9 and 10 he was in the city of Lima, as a speaker at the International Conference on Electronic, Electrical Engineering and Computing (INTERCON 2018) that was held at the Universidad Mayor de San Marcos (UNMSM).
Yi Qian is a professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL). Prior to joining UNL, he worked in the telecommunications industry. Some of his previous professional positions include serving as a senior member of scientific staff and a technical advisor at Nortel Networks, a senior systems engineer and a technical advisor at several start-up companies, an assistant professor at University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez, and a senior researcher at National Institute of Standards and Technology. His research interests include information assurance and network security, network design, network modeling, simulation and performance analysis for next generation wireless networks, wireless ad-hoc and sensor networks, vehicular networks, smart grid communication networks, broadband satellite networks, optical networks, high-speed networks and the Internet. He was the previous Chair of IEEE Technical Committee for Communications and Information Security. He was the Technical Program Chair for IEEE International Conference on Communications (ICC) 2018. He is serving on the editorial boards for several international journals and magazines, including serving as the Editor-in-Chief for IEEE Wireless Communications Magazine.
The topic “On 5G Wireless Security” showed the audience, both professionals and students, the impact of these technologies in the world and in our country. The participants were satisfied with the innovative topics and information received, as they were able to clarify their doubts and know in the near future.
In addition to the conference, Yi Qian enjoyed the Intercon dinner where he shared his experiences of the tour with colleagues and keynotes from other participating chapters.
On his last day he visited the ruins and the museum of Pachacamac and participated in a dinner with the comitee of the ComSoc Peru Chapter where the research lines and projects he is currently carrying out were discussed and could also be done together with Peruvian students.
